SRK not allowed to See the match

While their 'Diwali' explosive, Om Shanti Om, has embarked on a flying start at the ticket window, the fans of the lead pair, Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are in for a disappointment. As per our Kanpur (the venue of the third ODI between India and Pakistan) based sources, the winning duo will not be seen at the cricket match. The reason is that the Kanpur district administration and also the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association have expressed their inability to provide them ample security cover, during the match. While, the Indian team's lucky mascots may not be seen 'live' on 11th November, their fans can check them out on-screen at the nearest cinema, provided that the tickets are available!

OM SHANTI OM beats SAAWARIYA

Shah Rukh Khan’s OM SHANTI OM was the most-watched film on Friday in the entire U.K., if one goes by the screen average of all 150 films [English and non-English] running in the nation. The film collected £ 114,318 on 52 screens on Friday, with the average working out to £ 2,198. Extra-ordinary.On the other hand, there’s a wide gap between O.S.O. and SAAWARIYA in U.K. SAAWARIYA collected £ 38,254 on 46 screens, with the screen average working out to £ 832.

Karan Johar Couldn't Attend Om Shanti Om premiere

The London premiere of Om Shanti Om seemed rather incomplete without Shah Rukh Khan's director Farah Khan and his best friend Karan Johar.Neither could attend the event for personal rather. Farah Khan is not allowed to travel in her advanced stage of pregnancy. But Karan who has designed Shah Rukh's clothes in Om Shanti Om had to drop out at the last minute due to a family crisis. "My mother's back problem got aggravated and she couldn’t travelI had to take her for a series of medical tests. Otherwise I wouldn't have missed the event for the world. Shah Rukh is family and he had insisted my mom and I be there," said Karan emotionally whose absence at the London premiere was noticed. Karan is currently preparing for his assistant Tarun Mansukhani to start a film featuring Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham. "We haven't yet found a title for it," informs Karan. "And we're willing to listen to anyone who comes up with an apt title for this light frothy romantic comedy." The liberating news is that Tarun Mansukhani's film needn't follow Karan Johar's tradition of 'K' titles."Yes, a non-K title will do. In fact I might end up giving my next directorial project a title without a K. Shocking? But isn't change the only way to survive in this business."

Grand Premiere of OSO

Bollywood fever grips Leicester Square as the World Premiere of Om Shanti Om brings London's West End to a standstill. London's West End was freeze framed in full Bollywood Technicolor last night, as the biggest name in the industry, Shah Rukh Khan, brought human traffic in Leicester Square to a gridlock, as he graced the Red Carpet at the World Premiere of 2007's most anticipated Bollywood blockbuster release, Om Shanti Om, at Empire, Leicester Square.Presented by Eros International, and the first major mainstream Bollywood release to premiere at Empire, Leicester Square, Om Shanti Om's bedazzling opening brought movie madness to the heart of the West End, as thousands of fans and cineastes from all over the world descended upon the square and surrounding streets to catch a glimpse of King Khan, Shah Rukh, who was joined by his co-stars in the film, the sensational Bollywood debutante, Deepika Padukone, handsome hero, Arjun Rampal and the multi-talented, Shreyas Talpade to meet and greet the star struck fans and the on looking media. Film frenzy ensued as the crowds, who had gathered since the morning despite the severe weather conditions, had to be held back by guards, having broken through the enclosing security barriers. The release of Om Shanti Om, through leading integrated media company, Eros International, marks a turning point in the Bollywood industry's bid for domination of the global box office. At the daytime media conference that preceded the spectacular red carpet showdown, Bollywood legend, Shah Rukh Khan stated, "I want to make the first Indian film that the whole world will watch. The UK is the starting point because of the mix of cultures that you have here, with the Asians alongside the English. This premiere is very important." Kishore Lulla, Chairman and CEO, Eros International, added, "We are looking for the Indian Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That was a Chinese-language movie but it grossed a billion dollars internationally. The most successful Bollywood films take about $25 million at the moment, but I think in the next five years we will make that jump. "Eros has always enjoyed a fantastic relationship with Shah Rukh Khan and we are looking forward to releasing Om Shanti Om during the festive season of Diwali. It is one of the most awaited films of the year and we are excited to be leveraging Eros' global distribution in promoting the film."

'O.S.O.' Special Screening

Even though its premiere is scheduled to take place in London, Shah Rukh Khan organized a special screening of his keenly-anticipated film OM SHANTI OM for the crème de la crème of the film industry on Tuesday [6th November] night at Yash Raj Studios.

All speculation about the Bachchan – SRK cold war seems nullified as Amitabh accompanied by son Abhishek Bachchan made a point to attend the screening of the film. Rishi Kapoor’s presence came as a surprise because his son’s debut film SAAWARIYA is also slated for release this Friday, but Rishi is an integral part of O.S.O. Also present at the screening was Rekha, who seldom makes an appearance at film events these days.

Saif Ali Khan walked in with his kids and Kareena Kapoor, while Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra made an entry together. Priyanka had mehndi on her hands…. “I’ve come straight from the shoot of GOD TUSSI GREAT HO. Don’t think otherwise,” she jokingly corrected me.

The guest-list included Yash Chopra, Ravi Chopra, Karan Johar, Ashutosh Gowariker, David Dhawan, Subhash Ghai, Kunal Kohli, Sajid Khan, Ratan and Ganesh Jain of Venus, Ramesh Taurani of Tips, Vidya Balan, Lara Dutta, Amisha Patel, Urmila Matondkar, Neelam, Sanjay Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Shabbir Boxwala, Milap Zaveri, distributor Anil Thadani with wife Raveena Tandon, Dino Morea, Rakesh and Ajai Acharya of Baba Films, Mimoh Chakraborty with mom Yogita…

A number of film-makers showered compliments on Deepika Padukone, who was present till the screening concluded. Shah Rukh and Farah Khan played excellent hosts, personally receiving each and every guest and staying at the venue till the very end.

Review Movie Om Shanti Om

Cut the crap, cut the gyan-baazi, cut the will-it-won't-it work naatak. Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan's OM SHANTI OM is a true-blue masala entertainer. If MAIN HOON NA was a chauka, this one hits a sixer!

Wait, a word of advice to all netizens/readers across the globe. Don't, for God's sake don't, raise exclamations like kab?, kyun? kahan? as OM SHANTI OM begins to unravel. This is atypical Manmohan Desai film presented in a novel avtaar by Farah Khan. It's definitely not for pseudos or advocates of arthouse cinema.

Now let's clear some myths surrounding OM SHANTI OM. Is it the 2007 adaptation of Subhash Ghai's immensely likable reincarnation film KARZ? Does it have traces of KUDRAT? Or MADHUMATI? Or MILAN? Or KARAN ARJUN? Hold on, there's a dash of KARZ, a bit of KARAN ARJUN, a sprinkling of KUDRAT, but beyond that it's a film that makes you nostalgic about 1970s Bollywood.

To sum up, OM SHANTI OM is paisa vasool entertainment. We haven't seen SRK in a hardcore masala film since quite some time. He had drifted to other genres, which proved his range as an actor of repute and cemented his status further. With OM SHANTI OM, he gives back to the audience what he himself grew up on -- a thorough entertainer that will have the audience thirsting for more.

This Diwali, have a blast!

OM SHANTI OM tells the story of Om [Shah Rukh Khan] and Shanti [Deepika Padukone]. Om is a junior artist in the 70s. Shanti is the reigning superstar. He is her biggest fan. He is in love with her. Om dreams of being a superstar, but an incident changes his life forever.

Om dies in a mishap, but is reborn into the present day. He attempts to discover the mystery of his demise?

The general feeling is, Farah Khan has remade Ghai's KARZ from Frame A to Z. False! There're similarities, but it's not a rehashed version of Ghai's film. For, OM SHANTI OM takes you by complete surprise at several points.

The first twist in the tale [Arjun - Deepika's heated confrontation, with SRK listening to this important conversation] comes as a bolt from the blue. The second jhatka comes slightly before the intermission, when Arjun takes Deepika to the set of his film 'Om Shanti Om' and the entire episode that follows, right till the intermission, is spellbinding. That's a brilliant stroke from the writing [screenplay: Mushtaq Shaikh and Farah Khan] as also the execution point of view. When the opulent set is set to flames, it leaves you wide-eyed and awe-struck. Such is the impact!

The post-interval portions only get better and better! If the initial portions are laced with humour [the premiere of 'Dreamy Girl', the Manoj Kumar episode, Ghai directing Rishi on 'Om Shanti Om' song, et al], the second half moves into a new zone completely.

It's punar-janam now, but thankfully, there're no lightening, no fireworks, no zooming of the camera on the idols of Gods. The drama builds up gradually. The voices that SRK keeps hearing, the 'fire' soon after the 'Dard-E-Disco' track, the mother [Kirron Kher], an old lady now, chasing Om's car [reminds you of Raakhee of KARAN ARJUN], the flashes of SRK's earlier birth while receiving the Filmfare Award -- the incidents that make him realize that his life was cut short in his earlier janam have been well structured.

When Deepika re-emerges as well, the viewer is confused, but the mystery is resolved towards the end, which, again, takes you by complete surprise.

Given the fact that OM SHANTI OM is a Manmohan Desai kind of a film set in the present-day, it would be foolhardy to ask questions, raise eyebrows and look for logic. But the second half could've been crisper [length: 18 reels/2.46 hours], although Shirish Kunder's editing is perfect.

Farah knows what her priorities are and most importantly, knows exactly what her target audience is. The execution of a number of sequences clearly shows Farah's growth as a storyteller. Mushtaq and Farah's writing works because the writers pull out several surprises in those 2.46 hours.

V. Manikanandan's cinematography captures the gloss and grandeur to the minutest. The opulent sets [Sabu Cyril] deserve distinction marks. Dialogues [Mayur Puri] are witty and do raise a chuckle at several points. Background score [Sandeep Chowta] is effective.Vishal-Shekhar's music is first-rate. The score is in sync with the content of the film and what accentuate the goings-on are the choreography and execution. Although every song is visually enticing, the 21-star track as also 'Dard-E-Disco' will have the masses going into a frenzy.

Now to the performances! SRK proves his supremacy yet again. If you thought that playing to the gallery came easy to certain actors only, watch SRK spin magic in OM SHANTI OM. He's magnificent, the star attraction, the soul of this film, the true baadshah.

Deepika has all it takes to be a top star -- the personality, the looks and yes, she's supremely talented too. Standing in the same frame as SRK and getting it right is no small achievement. She comes as a whiff of fresh air!

Arjun Rampal is a complete revelation. Cast in a negative role this time, he enacts his part with panache and style. Shreyas Talpade is another surprise. A complete natural, he stands on his feet all through, not getting swayed while sharing the screen space with the topmost star.

Kirron Kher is superb as the over the top mom. Javed Sheikh is alright. Bindu adds to the funny moments.

On the whole, OM SHANTI OM is Bollywood masala in its truest form and also, at its best. At the box-office, the film will set new records in days to come and has the power to emerge one of the biggest hits of SRK's career. Blockbuster hit!

Shahrukh Khan In Krrish Sequel

SRK - Hrithik Together in Krrish 2 ?
Who said the impossible could not be made possible?

In Bollywood anything is possible? and this time it's Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan together in Krrish 2.

Rumours in Indian newspapers have stated that Bollywood's number one hero Shah Rukh Khan has accepted a major role offered to him by Filmkraft boss Rakesh Roshan.

The two have worked numerous times before and have a great on and off screen charishma. When Rakesh Roshan rung Shah Rukh Khan, offering him a role in one of his forthcoming productions, Shah Rukh said ?Yes', without even wanting to know what movie and what kind of part it would be.

It was only after he got a text message on his phone from Hrithik Roshan, that it finally hit him? Shah Rukh Khan had just accepted a superhero role in Krrish 2 (or 3 as to how you think of it). The text message that Hrithik wrote was something on the lines of: KRRISH IS GONNA KICK KROADHS ASS. U BETTER B IN SHAPE.

More rumours have said that Shah Rukh Khan will be playing an alien in human form (Kroadh), who can not be killed? The movie will see both Krrish and Kroadh battle each other for ?human-kind'. Shah Rukh Khan will not be playing the bad guy in the movie, but an alien with issues.

The final battle will involve Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan fighting on the same side against the actual bad guy of the film.

More unconfirmed reports say that Rang De Basanti director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra will be directing this film as Rakesh Roshan is busy with another project.

If this story is in fact true? and we do get to see Hrithik and Shah Rukh in an all action flick? what will you make out of it? Do you think this movie could break all Box Office records and become the greatest and most popular movie in Indian film industry history?
